A russian girl in Oil Paints

Those days, we used to get this russian magazine called span. I got this picture from there. I was fresh out of college and was in good touch.....had a feeling I could do anything.....and took this as a challenge.....Eventually it turned out ok....unfortunately I damaged this painting (notice the scrap of white below her lip)...

The saint....( in pencil)

I adore MS as a saint, a goddess. I can never forget those moments when I saw her.....how humble she was for her stature......I took extra effort to do this sketch well. (I picked this up from a Hindu supplement on music). I wanted to somehow capture the depths of devotional fervour, and the faint blissful smile which was there in the photo......I wonder if I came close....

The son...

Pencil sketching is very safe.....You get to rub off parts which dont look good and then resketch it. Here is lord Jesus. This did not require any use of eraser though! Could wrap it up in one go....But hay who knows how the son of God looked like! That made things easy!

Those eyes!

I love eyes.....esp when they are large and expressive....I picked these lovely ones from a newspaper.....I just had to sketch them! I wonder if I got them as well as they actually looked!

Nataraja in Tandavam

I picked this Natraja idol from a book....Pen sketching of metal idols gives a fantastic effect.....(recently I did Rodin's thinker and presented it to V.)

This was a sketch from da Vinci......

Lovely Ash!

I began with Ash....But was too ambitious probably.....Ball pen left too rough a texture for her soft features....frustrated, I gave up! Some day I will get back to her, and hopefully do a better job!

Urmi

Indian actresses always are a worthy challenge to reproduce! esp when it was to be a pen sketch....but I was adament to use a pen as a challenge....Sometimes, however, the end result is not an exaulting one! Look how poor Urmi surfaced (due to my impatience!!!)I thought I began well.....but then messed up one side....Sorry Urmi! Next time better luck (if ever!)

Adventures with the pen....

A black ball pen and a thick white paper is all thats required...
A bit more challenging than the pencil....can give some fantastic effects

When Inspired.....

At times you crave to express yourself in more than words......
Some take to poetry, some to Music...
And some to art.
But the underlying thread is an intense need to go beyond words
a passion that crystallizes into a physical form....
